Abstract
The study of phytodiversity of flora within the fort is important. Fort flora found within the historical forts of Karnataka, India are vital for their rich biodiversity, including many rare and endemic species. The study of fort flora reports 278 species only angiosperms belonging to 69 families, covering 113 herbs, 41 shrubs, 66 trees, 22 climbers, 15 climbing shrubs, 8 undershrubs, 13 lianas species. This fort flora also supports few useful medicinal plants. Therefore, there is an urgent need to protect the fort flora to sustain the biodiversity.
