Abstract

Gymnema sylvestre R.Br. (Apocynaceae), is a woody shrub, found in the tropical and subtropical regions in India (Saneja et al., 2010; Khan et al., 2019)). It is also known as “Madhunashini” in Kannada (Prajawal et al., 2018; Prashant, n.d.), literally meaning the “Sweet destroyer” (Anjum & Hasan, 2013; Saneja et al., 2010). Phytochemical analysis of two different locally available plant parts was done in Methanol and petrolium ether extract.Phytochemicals are bioactive chemicals of plant. The most important bioactive constituents of plants are terpenoids, saponin, alkaloid, steroids, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds (Bone, 2014).
